Newly Wed Reality Check

Surfing around other blogs, I found someone else who loves the book "Angels on Assignment" - the amazing story of Roland Buck, a hillbilly American pastor who had numerous supernatural angelic encounters prior to his death/promotion to glory. The story is told by Charles and Francis Hunt -- ISBN 0-917726-33-2, Hunter Books, Kingwood, Texas, 1979 - so it's old. Highly recommended. Some found it highly controversial (what else is new?) Some years ago, I bought a box load and made the book required reading for my Bible students. From the preface: "This is a book which should be read and re-read often as God penetrates our hearts with His blueprints for living."

All of the above was said to say this: the guy's blog has got a wedding picture up (in fact it is all he has up right now!) So I posted a "newly wed" comment. Here's a copy of what I wrote:

  • Put your trust in Jesus every day
  • Be sensitive to each other
  • Don't let society dictate your values
  • Have a shared Godly vision
  • Determine to live beyond this life (This earth is not our home!)
  • Above all, stay in love as an act of faith, not a response to feelings.

Do these things and you'll remain truely blessed. And get a copy of Angels on Assignment from www.abebooks.com OK folks, so much for the newly wed advice.. now I've got to practice what I preach! Forget reality shows - maybe my next blog entry should be from my wife - it will be my marriage "Reality Check."

John,
I read Angels on Assignment YEARS ago - dates me, huh? :) I need to find it and read it again. I recommend it to your readers. I remember there was controversy over the Hunt's, themselves. But, what's new? There's always controversy over a Christian!

John, I want to confirm and share my miracle:

A while back, I don't remember just when (maybe a year or so ago?), I wanted to purchase my own copy of Angels on Assignment, by the late Rev. Roland Buck, as told to Charles and Frances Hunter. (I had been reading my mothers copy, but I wanted to give that back to her and buy my own.)

So, when I looked on the web for the book, I saw the website, http://AngelsOnAssignment.org --and the "funny thing" about it? The web site had JUST been created months before, and I was now able to look at the sequel by Pastor Buck's eldest child, which confirmed what I believed about his credibility.

That may not sound like much of a coincidence to you, but let's put it into perspective: The two books (by pastor Buck and his daughter) had been printed in the late 1970's, and this was well-after 2000, approximately TWENTY FIVE YEARS later, and OFTEN either out of print or difficult to obtain, but JUST when I needed a touch from the Lord -there it was -had just been posted on the web -for free at that.

Angels working? The Holy Spirit moving me at just the "right time?" "Coincidence?"

I don't know "how," but I do know "What." Let me point out to you that I have looked closely at both books, and the "theology" outlined in both is correct and does not contradict the Bible on any point, but I add that JESUS not only created (Gen. 1:1; John 1:1,14) the worlds, not only repairs that which is broken, and not only is our defense attorney and advocate (1st John 2:1), and not only the prosecuting attorney for those who deny a cup of water to such as Terri Schiavo (Matthew 25:31-46), but most importantly, he is the ONLY person to have lived a 100% perfect life, we needed this perfect example to show us that a "normal" life is not impossible.

"Strange" theology? Look at John 13:15 and John 14:12 the most two important verse in the wholes of the Bible: For without a perfect "example" (13:15), we would not have faith to accept the "salvation," that is, Jesus' word that is is possible to follow His example and walk in the spirit and even do "greater works" (14:12), a concept that is not intuitive: After all, who would believe that we can do "greater works" than The Master? (No one else would be able to convince me of that, but I take Jesus' word.)

In regards to the importance, let's just put it this way: If Jesus had said "Father, this life is too difficult; Just take me, and save these people," the Father would have replied: If even YOU can't live a normal life, then the creation is flawed, and NO ONE can: I will have to destroy the human race.

Oh, My!

But, thank Jesus that He did not give up. (PS: I practice what I preach: I tried to save Terri Schiavo, and came VERY close, but lost a heartbreaking 4-3 Decision in the Florida Supreme Court. The State's Governor, also a believer in Matthew 25:31-46, which quotes Jesus on those who denied her a cup of water, lost his case by a 7-0 margin before the same court, God Bless his heart. LET ME BE CLEAR! Some people will not like me mentioning anything about politics along with religion, but I am not ashamed of MY Jesus, and I will boldly proclaim that Jesus DOES defend those such as Terri Schiavo; Anyone that disagrees will clearly have called Jesus a liar, as he is quoted in the Matthew passage cited above. I won't be fighting Jesus on this, and I pity those who do. Keep them in our prayers, will we?

John 13:15 "For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you." (KJV)

John 14:12 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." (KJV)

Matthew 25:41-42, 46 "Then shall he say unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was hungered...I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." (Notice, JESUS does not say anything about feeding tubes: Food, water, and a hell everlasting vis-a-vis life eternal; Jesus wants to tell you now, please treat His little sisters with care when they are thirsty and hungry, and He loves you too!)

Be blessed in Jesus.
