Responding in an Age of Terror

Homeland Security Advisory

This real-time security warning (above) is a gizmo from the Department for Homeland security -- reflecting the current level of alert across the Pond, not here in London of course. I saw this first on the www.torchgrab.org website. Torchgrab's founding director, Dr. Porter, is an emergency responder, fire chaplain, international speaker and church planting pioneer who chose to forsake mega-church planting (he is an experienced missionary and church planter) and start over in his living room, in the quest to recapture the dynamic of 1st century discipleship whilst responding to a last-days scenario of terror and international chaos.

One of the most compassionate men I know, Dr. Bruce carries a sense of reality with his faith, bringing comfort, hope and promise of new life to those traumatized in the hardest of circumstances. He spent weeks comforting fire crews at Ground Zero after 9/11, then just months later, was responding to the Queens Airbus disaster in New York whilst the fires still blazed. He's visited Beslan, and earlier this year was building post-Tsunami dwellings in Sri Lanka.

Closest to home for Dr. Bruce, however, was the Columbine High School massacre, which occurred in his home town of Littleton, Colorado. A close long-time friend, I'm honoured to have Bruce serve on our own ministry council of reference.

You'll be hearing more about Torchgrab Ministries on this blog, and my more graphical one at http://faithsjourney.blogspot.com I'll also keep you informed as the publication date of his new book, "Responding Fearlessly in an Age of Terror" approaches..
